my approach: empathy and cultural sensitvity

I understand that reaching out for therapy can be a big step, especially when you're dealing with deep emotional pain and feel like you should be able to handle it on your own. You might be struggling with low self-esteem, constantly battling negative self-talk that erodes your confidence and sense of self-worth. You might be coping with major life changes, such as starting a new job, moving to a new city, or dealing with the loss of a loved one, feeling unsettled and stressed. Additionally, you may be trying to navigate relationships with those around you—family, friends, partners, colleagues, or community members—which can be a source of significant strain and confusion. You might also be grappling with understanding and embracing your social identities, whether they are cultural, sexual, spiritual, or otherwise, trying to find your place and understand who you are in a world that can sometimes feel unaccepting or confusing.

It can also be incredibly challenging to address and express your feelings when you are struggling, leaving you feeling isolated and misunderstood. These struggles can contribute to a persistent low mood, which may manifest as chronic fatigue,

lack of motivation, difficulty concentrating, or a sense of hopelessness. My goal is to provide a safe, warm, accepting, and non-judgmental space where you can explore these difficulties openly and begin your journey toward growth and self-discovery. Ultimately, our goal is to support you to feel more resilient and confident to face each day with hope and purpose.

My approach is distinguished by deep empathy, cultural sensitivity, and personalized care. I use an integrated therapeutic approach combining client-centered therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and feminist therapy. I am passionate about supporting clients to navigate challenges related to identity, self-worth, and emotional expression in a compassionate, non-judgmental environment. I am curious about my clients' lives and eager to explore their experiences with them. As someone who is culturally sensitive and LGBTQ+ friendly, I ensure that all clients feel welcomed and respected. I am also committed to addressing power imbalances in therapy, fostering a collaborative relationship where your voice and experiences are valued. By focusing on your strengths and fostering resilience, we can work together toward your personal growth.

More about me

I was born and raised in Northeast China and have lived in England, Scotland, Egypt, and California for education and experience. In 2022, I moved to Sacramento to pursue a Doctor of Psychology degree in clinical psychology as an international student.

My journey in higher education began as a business major, earning a B.S. degree in finance to fulfill my parents' expectations. During college, I experienced depression and anxiety and went to therapy, which inspired my passion for psychology and led me to pursue a career in psychotherapy.

I identify as a non-binary pansexual woman. I understand the challenges of being queer in conservative cultures and am passionate about providing culturally sensitive support to queer individuals. As an international student, I have rich experiences navigating language challenges and cultural identity development.

Outside of work, I enjoy writing short essays and poems in Chinese, painting and drawing, playing the piano and ukulele, cooking Asian cuisines, and reading in English and Chinese. I’m trying to be more physically active, though my mind often works harder than my body. I’m also learning Spanish on Duolingo (400+ days streak!), but the most useful phrase I've learned is “Yo no hablo español!”
