Mindful Eating
EnGage in the practice of eating mindfully
Begin by exploring your piece of candy, using as many of your senses as possible.
Pay attention to how the wrapper looks.
Notice its color and design.
Notice how it feels to hold the candy in your hands.
Slowly unwrap the candy, taking your time.
What sounds do you hear?
What textures do you feel?
Smell the candy. What do you notice?
Plan to take at least 2 bites to finish.
Take your first bite.
Chew very slowly, noticing the sensory experience of chewing and tasting.
You might want to close your eyes to truly focus on the sensations.
Notice the texture of the candy. How does it feel in your mouth?
Notice whether the intensity of its flavor changes or remains the same.
Slowly finish this first bite, being aware of the simple sensations of chewing.
Swallow carefully.
Now, take your second bite.
As before, chew very slowly while paying close attention to the sensory experience of eating.
How is the texture this time? What body sensations do you notice as you chew?
Does the flavor shift or change as you focus on it?
Swallow slowly, and notice the sensations in your mouth, throat, and stomach.
Well done!
You have focused on the present moment as you mindfully enjoyed this piece of candy.
