Therapy for Teens in Sacramento

dear parents,

What tough years adolescence can be! We all remember that awkwardness and worry and uncertainty that comes during those ages when you're not quite a child anymore and not yet an adult. All the stress and pressure from school and planning for their futures plus friends, family relationships, dating and sexuality, social media and trying to sort through who they are going to be as people can take a toll. At Thrive, we see teens struggle a lot with this whole range of issues, which can contribute to or trigger anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns. In addition, teens may deal with bullying, whether cyber or in-person, or with intense pressure to fit in, all of which can add to stress and overwhelm.

Then, of course, there can be the expected changes in attitude and fighting with parents as teens struggle to define their identities and assert their individuality, just like they’re supposed to do at this age. Even writing about this period of life and knowing how hard it is for everyone makes me shudder a bit!

Does this remind you of your teen or of your family relationships? Are you worried that your teen is struggling to cope? Do you find yourself just wanting your teen to have the life skills they need to be happy and successful?

Then, let's chat!

Just call or email us, and we'll be happy to talk through any questions or concerns you may have. We look forward to helping your teen and your family thrive!

dear teen,

We’re so glad you’re here. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, sad, lonely, worried, down on yourself or just plain stressed out, we want to help! We know how much you have on your plate and how dealing with friends, school, family, Instagram/Snapchat/social media, dating and sexuality, future decisions and on and on can all take a toll.

We’ve been there. We’ve even dealt with our own depression and anxiety and stress and overwhelm when we were teens. We get how lonely it can feel and how it can seem like you’re on a gigantic, never-ending roller coaster ride with your emotions. We understand how stuck and frustrated and sometimes out-of-control-of-your-own-life you may feel.

We want you to know you’re not alone.

We want you to know that there are tools and skills you can learn that will help.

We want you to be happier and to feel good about yourself.

We’d love to help you get there!

Just shoot us an email or give us a call. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have, and we can even help you talk with your parents about therapy.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

what can teens expect in therapy?

At our first appointment, we'll all talk through what to expect in therapy, and everyone will have a chance to ask questions. We'll also talk about confidentiality and how important it is for teens to have a place where they can talk openly to work through their feelings and struggles. There are, of course, limits to this, which we'll discuss. Additionally, we'll begin our conversation about hopes and goals for therapy, and we'll keep talking about this as therapy progresses.

In teen therapy, we focus on a range of activities, which can vary based on what each teen needs. We may talk through challenges and stressors, problem-solve or learn and practice new skills and tools. We may also use art, music, sand tray or games as tools for expression, growth, connection and self-understanding. Each therapy session will be focused on supporting each teen's needs, goals and interests.
